Yummier Healthier Waffles

Image
I adapted this recipe from a recipe on "How To This and That" Restaurant Style Waffles , check out her blog here: http://howtothisandthat.com/how-to-make-restaurant-style-homemade-belgian-waffles/ I took the original ingridients and substitute healthier options. You can make it as healthy as you want by making additional changes, but the below recipe has already been tested and tried by my non-health concerned husband who loves waffles and only cares about taste. He approves! This will make about 8 waffles so you may want to double it if you want to get some leftovers to freeze and use for the week.  INGREDIENTS A waffle iron hot and ready to go 1 cup whole wheat flour  1 cup all purpose flour  ¾ cup of white sugar, all natural sugar, or sugar alternative  3 teaspoons of baking powder 1 teaspoon of baking soda 2 eggs (or 3 egg whites or 2 egg replacement , I used farm fresh eggs)  1/4 cup melted butter 1/4 cup coconut oil  1 cup almond milk ( add up to ½ cu...

Are any diets reliable? My adventure in researching the most hailed and obsessive diets out there.

Image
How do you know what diet to choose if every diet out there seems to be obsessed over by the media one week and totally debunked the next ?  WHAT DO WE REALLY KNOW ABOUT A HEALTHY DIET? Well I spent several (won't embarrass my self with the exact number ) hours researching, reading books, watching videos, looking at studies and various blogs and I found, you can't really trust any of them (diets). In the end the only reason any of them worked is because people were benefitting from the simple acts of exercising more, eating less calories and trying to be healthy. It didn't actually matter what method they took so much, as long as they met those basics. Furthermore, some diets, like veganism, which cut out many items totally, could be unhealthy if the nutrients removed were not carefully replaced.  A brief look at the many diets suggested to me. Aka. My adventure in researching: Based on the several popular you tubers, studies and books like "Forks over Knives", my...

Let it Go

Image
Forgetting the past is different than letting go Forgetting tries to ignore having thoughts about the past in order to avoid negative emotions that might come with remembrance Letting go is accepting what happened Forgiving those who were involved or to blame  Choosing not to do well in anger or sadness even if the situation allowed you to have a right to feel that way Deciding to take what you can and learn from the situation Or at the very least exciting you would never make the same mistake again Or if it was something that was done to you you can use that situation for good by being an influence and help others You can be a advocate for people who experience the same pages you You can spread important information and support for others who may not be aware You can use the memory of past pain to inspire you to be a better person And to determine what kind of character you want to develop Forgetting never faces the fax and never allows the pe...

Vaping Dangerous?

Image
written Sept 9, 2018 "The more I Vape, the less I desire to smoke cigarettes" said customer at Vader Vapor in La Mesa, California.  If vaping helps you quit smoking it is far more beneficial for you, but if you can avoid smoking and vaping that is ideal. We do not know enough yet to know whether vaping is horrible for you, but in general anything going into your lungs over an over can't be ideal. There are debates as to whether it is really that bad for you compared to anything else you may be doing on a regular basis, but without the comparison just by itself it isn't great. If you must smoke something vape may be the safest for your lungs, but smoking nothing is much preferred for your health.  I asked chat gpt if vaping is bad for you and this is what it said:  Yes, vaping can be harmful to your health. While it's often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, research indicates that vaping poses several health risks: Nicotine Addiction : Many e-cigarettes c...

How to Eat Healthy For Noobs: Tips If You Never Tried a Healthy DietBefore and Don't Know Where to Start

Image
After a good friend of mine suggested this topic to me, I thought for a while where to begin, then I procrastinated and finally late one night it hit me. If you have never really tried eating healthy before how should you begin? Replacements! What if you aren't a health-conscious eater, but you want to be? Maybe you never have been successful with dieting or you haven't had the desire to and now you think it's time to get healthy. You may want to eventually go all out, but you're new to this and you need to start small.  The easiest way to start is with the simple act of replacing. This means slowly switching out your current food and life choices for slightly more healthy versions one-by-one until you reach your health goals. It may seem simple, but too many people try to start being healthy by going straight for the latest diet or trying to change everything at once. We are bombarded by all the latest health claims and diet fads. Many of us get overwhelmed and guil...

Is Your Daily Vitamin Going to Kill You?

Image
Found this interesting factoid in an article about gummy vitamins: "The people who take multivitamins are often the ones who need them the least — healthy adults who are already concerned with wellness and most likely reach their daily allotment of most vitamins and minerals just by eating a fairly nutritious diet " - http://greatist.com/health/gummy-vitamins-for-adults So do most of us even need to take vitamin supplements?  40% of the adult population report to take a multi-vitamin daily, but do they really need to? Are they wasting time, money or even possibly harming themselves?  Some experts say it's ok, some say it could kill you. Read on. I did some research and here is who  should  take vitamins: - College students who most likely are not able to eat a well balanced diet - Pregnant women, prenatal a obviously and these women more than any should get specific advice from their doctor on what to take - Alcoholics, for whatever reason they really ne...

Losing and Not Losing Yourself in Relationships

Image
I found this great article where a woman shares her experience about "losing" herself in relationships. It made me think. We all want to "lose" ourself in that metaphorical way in the euphoric feeling of love. We love swooning over a new relationship. However, one thing we must guard against is losing who we are in that relationship. I don't know what it's like for men, but I assume they too can have this problem. As a woman I definitely have struggled with this in the past. I have changed or stifled parts of myself in relationships, not just with men, but with friends as well. I never did it intentionally it just happened when I wanted acceptance and certain parts of me weren't accepted. That's a horrible way to conduct relationships and I'm glad I eventually realized it.  However, even if you are not prone to unhealthily changing yourself in a relationship, there is still a certain challenge in balancing one's independence and dependence...

Garcinia Cambogia Danger

Image
WARNING : it may suppress your appetite too much (This does not count as dinner! Even if it does have healthy nuts on top) This is my second day using my new bottle of GC, so I've been using GC 2 weeks with a 2 week break in between and just started up again. That's not how you are supposed to do it I just lost my previous bottle. Anyway... Yesterday my appetite was suppressed. I'm assuming it was the GC because that was the only different factor in my diet. I woke up Saturday around 11:30am and ate a decent sized brunch till I felt satisfied, not too full and no longer hungry. 3 hours later I had a coffee and a small fiber one bar. 3 hours after that I had a cupcake. 3 hours after that I was still awake and had eaten nothing else but felt fine. Lies. I woke up this morning and my body hated me. It was screaming at me to eat something. I took a shower and had to pause my shower half way to crumple on the floor until the feeling of my stomach eating me alive subsided. SO Whe...

Garcinia Cambogia Update

Image
I finally got my new bottle of GC in the mail after leaving it at a friends house. So now we are starting over.  My weight right now is :115.4 My BMI: 19.4 (low-normal range) My Body Fat %: 16.6 %  2 % points lower than before.  Maybe my somewhat healthy eating habits, my 4 days of walking 30 min or more and taking daily vitamins is helping. Or maybe the GC in my system from before is helping. Or both?  (All the supplements I take regularly, some are everyday, some are 1-2x a week) Let's wait and see. Also I'm keeping in touch with my friend to see how the supplement works for them.

Scales Suck! - Day 1,2 and 3 of Garcinia Cambogia Experiment

Image
So I did some research and apparently scales commonly suck at life and get things wrong all the time! ( http://www.liftingrevolution.com/10-reasons-the-scale-isnt-budging-yet )( for a great article on this )   I tried to see if I'm losing weight from the supplement, but my  scale says I've gained two pounds! Then  I realized if I move it to a spot on the floor a few feet over it says I've lost two pounds! Apparently this is common with digital scales. You have to measure yourself on the scale using the same exact position and never move the scale to a new location. It's best to wear the same exact clothes every time or be naked. And you should measure your weight several times until the scale gives you the lowest weight or the same reading several times in a row. You may have to adjust the way you stand and practice standing the same exact way every time. So I may never know my actual exact weight, but if I stand right I'll have a measurement to go off of to ...

Putting Garcinia to the Test: Weightloss Secret or Overblown Hype?

Image
So this supplement "Garcinia Cambogia" according to Dr.Oz and Oprah and all these "health gurus" is supposed to be the magical weight loss cure we've all been waiting for. I have no real desire to lose weight at all, but I love testing a theory or product for validity, you know in the name of science.  Also some other claimed benefits sound appealing. If you regularly take this supplement the benefits are: - Suppressed Appetite and better able to control cravings  - Increased serotonin levels  - Feeling fuller longer - Prevents fat from being produced by forcing carbs to be used as energy rather than stored as fat - Curb emotional eating - Increase in Serotonin levels  - Improve mood - Deeper more restful sleep - Losing weight rapidly with no other changes to diet or exercise (average weight loss of 2-4 pounds a month) - Possible Immunity boost and immune support *** I'm all about that possibility  So why not try it. If it works on me then I'll suggest i...
