Vaping Dangerous?

written Sept 9, 2018

"The more I Vape, the less I desire to smoke cigarettes" said customer at Vader Vapor in La Mesa, California.

If vaping helps you quit smoking it is far more beneficial for you, but if you can avoid smoking and vaping that is ideal. We do not know enough yet to know whether vaping is horrible for you, but in general anything going into your lungs over an over can't be ideal. There are debates as to whether it is really that bad for you compared to anything else you may be doing on a regular basis, but without the comparison just by itself it isn't great. If you must smoke something vape may be the safest for your lungs, but smoking nothing is much preferred for your health.

I asked chat gpt if vaping is bad for you and this is what it said:

Yes, vaping can be harmful to your health. While it's often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, research indicates that vaping poses several health risks:

  1. Nicotine Addiction: Many e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive. Nicotine can harm brain development in young adults and teens and lead to addiction, making it harder to quit.

  2. Lung Damage: Vaping has been linked to lung injuries, including a condition known as EVALI (E-cigarette or Vaping Use-Associated Lung Injury). Some vape liquids contain harmful substances, like vitamin E acetate, which can damage lung tissue when inhaled.

  3. Toxic Chemicals: Vaping liquids often contain harmful chemicals, including formaldehyde, acrolein, and diacetyl, which can cause lung disease or other respiratory issues. The heating process used in vaping can also create toxic substances that may be inhaled.

  4. Heart Health: Nicotine and other chemicals in e-cigarettes can increase heart rate and blood pressure, potentially leading to heart disease over time.

  5. Secondhand Exposure: The aerosol produced by e-cigarettes is not just harmless water vapor; it contains harmful substances that can affect people nearby.

  6. Unknown Long-Term Effects: Vaping is relatively new, so the long-term health effects are not yet fully understood. However, early research suggests there could be significant risks.

If you're using vaping as a method to quit smoking, it's important to explore safer alternatives, like nicotine patches or gum, and to seek guidance from a healthcare professional.

There you have it, chat gpt could be wrong, but ask yourself if you hit yourself on the head everyday multiple times a day, but fairly lightly is it possible you would get a bruise overtime? The answer is yes, anything you do to your body repeatedly overtime will have an effect and when it comes to vaping that effect is most likely negative. Is it worse for you than eating candy every day which also has chemicals? Probably because vape is not digested like candy and goes straight to your lungs. While we wait for the science to catch up, we gotta just use common sense and that says it's likely no good. However, its still much better than smoking a cigarette so at least that's a start.
