Yummier Healthier Waffles

Image
I adapted this recipe from a recipe on "How To This and That" Restaurant Style Waffles , check out her blog here: http://howtothisandthat.com/how-to-make-restaurant-style-homemade-belgian-waffles/ I took the original ingridients and substitute healthier options. You can make it as healthy as you want by making additional changes, but the below recipe has already been tested and tried by my non-health concerned husband who loves waffles and only cares about taste. He approves! This will make about 8 waffles so you may want to double it if you want to get some leftovers to freeze and use for the week.  INGREDIENTS A waffle iron hot and ready to go 1 cup whole wheat flour  1 cup all purpose flour  ¾ cup of white sugar, all natural sugar, or sugar alternative  3 teaspoons of baking powder 1 teaspoon of baking soda 2 eggs (or 3 egg whites or 2 egg replacement , I used farm fresh eggs)  1/4 cup melted butter 1/4 cup coconut oil  1 cup almond milk ( add up to ½ cu...

Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns Those are the essentials now here are the extras:   5. Tomato 6. White or yellow onion 7. Spinach 8. Chili pepper, Jalapeño or Anaheim pepper (for spice)  9. Desired condiments : ketchup, mayo and ranch dip are my favs 10. Spices : parsley salt, thyme, rosemary and garlic salt is what I use  Step 2:  Cook the burger surrounded by the bacon to give it extra flavor  Tip: save the bacon grease in a jar for cooking the onions in too.  Step 3: take bacon out when it's your desired texture , it cooks faster than the burger. Set aside Step 4: Prepare onions, tomato and pepper by slicing them to your desired size for toppings. Step 5: if you like grilled onions add them to a pan, put a tsp of the saved bacon grease and cook those to ...

New recipe -Lavender Coffee

Image
Lavender! Not just for macaroons (Though if you want to make these too go here- http://www.diaryofamadhausfrau.com/2011/08/lavender-macarons-with-orchid.html?m=1) This isn't going to be any longer than needs to be because it's quite simple. Step one : make a pot of coffee using keurig or whatever you use  Step two : get dried lavender leaves or some form of lavender tea and put it in a coffee filter  ( how much you use depends on your coffee, generally 2 teaspoons per 6 ounces of water is what is called for looseleaf tea- but I use 1 tablespoon/6 oz) Step Three: place the coffee filter filled with lavender leaves in to your coffee ,  (tip: you want to secure the filter at the top by wrapping a rubber band around it) Step four: take out the lavender leaves after two minutes Bam! You now have Lavender infused coffee that tastes delicious- add cream and sugar or whatever you usually do to coffee,  unless you usually add peppermi...

Delicious Food I Made

Image
If I keep track of all the delicious things I made maybe I'll remember to make them again someday. This tastes really really good. It's  a fried egg and bacon sandwich. It simply goes like this: The Bacon: 2 pieces of thick cut bacon and optional 1 piece turkey bacon  The Egg:                       My trick: After cooking the bacon 1/2 way I dump out the extra grease into a metal can. Then when they are finished I leave the new grease in and throw in an egg. I make the egg over-easy and fried in the bacon fat.  While it's frying I add parsley salt and thyme for flavor. The Toast: Toast two pieces of toast and now you need to coat them with: Mayo Or Butter Or for healthier options Olive oil Or Spreadable cheese (I like laughing cow) The Sandwich: Then add the egg and bacon, breaking up the bacon so it fits and there you have a fried egg bacon s...

Simple Tip for a Delicious Salad

Image
Lets face it a salad is only as good as it's dressing. Too much and the salad is ruined, but just enough of the right type and the salad's deliciousness is multiplied to yum tastic heights in your mouth. I'm always looking for a good dressing and I finally found a great berry vinegrette. It's so good I want to put it on other things not just salad. I keep being tempted to put it on weird stuff like ice cream and cookies until I remember it's got vinegar in it. Anyway I got this dressing at Wal-Mart grocery and love it. It's "all natural" so it expires sooner than other dressings, but you really can't beat the price and low calorie amount. It uses real juices and fruit purees to get an excellent flavor. I used it on my berry and almond kale salad and it tasted amazing! I'm going to try spinach next. Now here is the only downside:  It uses "High Fructose Corn Syrup." If I knew that originally I...

Really Simple Healthy Lunch for the Lazy, but Health-Conscious: Fiber-fulicious Salad, Kale Chips and Spicy Bacon Pasta

Image
My lunch was just too simple and delicious not to share. Prep time: 20 min  (assuming you like me use left over pasta) I wanted to eat deliciously and healthy and I feel this lunch satisfies that really well. Ingridients: - Kale - pre-washed and pre-cut packages are awesome  - Berries (your choice) I used blueberries and raspberry -  Almonds (unsalted) - Raspberry vinegrette- Marketside all natural brand is really really good! - Maple Bacon - I like Black Label - Pasta and your choice of sauce  - Olive oil - Salt Optional seasonings : curry , oregano and honey (ok that's not really a seasoning, but it is optional) All I did was wash the berries in a cute little strainer, mix them with almonds and the kale and then add the vinegrette. Then the simplest little addition made a huge difference. Trust me! Sprinkle a tiny amount of honey over it all at the end. Yum. For the pasta I just made noodles with canned red sauce. To make the sauce a little more flavorful and add a...
