My Perfect Heavenly Planet

Image
This all started as a question my work asked us at an icebreaker. They asked “if you could design a planet, what would your perfect planet be like?” And I thought about it and I really liked my answer. I’d love to hear your answers too. Before I share my answer I want to share some of my personal beliefs because they shaped my answer.  I believe that there is a God that created everything, and if there is a God, it’s a good God because I like to believe I am good and if I was created by God they must be good too, super good.  And if God is good and powerful enough to create the world, then I think God also has a plan to fix the world’s flaws. Or maybe the world is just a test or preview of something better to come. Either way there is something better out there. I know this because I’ve never met a human who didn’t wish it to be so. If we all came from nothingness and just existed one day why would we get this idea that there is a better place? Some may say it’s wishful thinki...

Yes Man the Underrated Film We All Need Right Now

Image
People today are stressed and struggling more than ever to find what makes them happy and how to live a rich life. Films likewise are often struggling to provide the simple joy and meaning they once did. I don’t know if Netflix and the slow death of theater’s caused this or is a result of this, but films today just don’t hold a candle to the blockbusters of the 80s-early 2000s. We want authentic plots, which means more realistic artsy films that can be long, dull and leave you in a state of questioning whether the world has any good in it. That’s no fun even if the film is good, but many aren’t that good.     Where is that classic plot experience, where the hero might win just as you expected snd the end is neatly wrapped in a bow, but you don’t care because your comfortably engages and wrapped up in the story the entire time. Jaws, Jurassic Park, Star Wars (I know it’s slightly before the 80s), ET, Gremlins, Indianapolis Jones, The Mummy (only the first one and only rhet...

What you see is not reality : Social Media

Image
Just finished watching the Fyre festival documentary on Netflix .  I think this should be a required film to view for humans because it reminds us of the danger that comes when we get caught up in the seemingly perfect lives of those we see on social media. Briefly the story goes that one man, Billy McFarland, was able to sell a team of people on his visionary dream  of holding a music festival that would allow influencers and anyone who could afford the high ticket cost to live a dream weekend in luxury on a private island in the Bahamas.  The main way they sold everyone on this idea was not with facts or actual evidence of having this island (turns out they didn’t), but by showing them pictures on social media of models on jet skis and having influencers repost an orange box which symbolized their attendance to this elite event shrouded in mystery.  The event was cancelled after everyone arrived to a total disaster. Nothing they were promise...

Why your dream won’t make you happy.

I am learning that everything we think and feel we create in our lives. Growing up it was easy to blame my feelings and behavior on the circumstances around me because I had a difficult childhood and lots of drama at home. But all that blame did was prevent me from learning what I needed from the situation to become resilient. The truth is it’s my own thinking and attitude that determine how I feel.  I always thought when I become an adult I will make better choices, make my dreams come true and be happy. But really when I became an adult I was the same person with the same limitations. It took me a while to recognize the pattern. Eventually, I realized that no matter where I lived, no matter what job I had, which friends I had, whether I was single or in a relationship, had money or no money, I basically had the same inner thoughts, feelings and problems. There always seemed to be a person, place or situation to blame or an excuse to make. There also was always a set of c...

Fakers gonna Fake, Haters gonna Hate, I'm just gonna shake...

Image
Has anyone ever stopped and noticed how our culture promotes this "fake nice" especially in the workplace and especially with women in general. It's like we are encouraged to act like we like everyone as if that is true kindness when it isn't. We are told that a real lady doesn't directly express her thoughts or opinions, but sugar coats everything for others benefit. First of all I don't understand how people can't learn to accept everyone. Even if you aren't fond of someone, it's easy to accept and love them because they are human. Unless they actually do something terrible and inhuman to you or another person, in that case yeah they are a garbage human, but if they are just weird or rub you the wrong way because they aren't just like you and your friends, who by the way were hand selected by you because they are just like you (science), then you can learn to accept and love that person and let them be. Let them be doesn't mean you ...

Any Merry Little Thought

Image
"Think of a wonderful thought, any merry little thought. Think of all the joy you'll find When you leave the world behind And bid your cares goodbye You can fly, you can fly, You can fly! " - Peter Pan the Disney Movie Everyone wants to experience Happiness, but do we have to wait till our goals and dreams have all come true before we feel happy? Do our circumstances define our attitude toward life or are we able to take control of our own feelings and bend them to create that positive attitude that makes our world so much brighter ? Though most people would probably agree we can control our feelings to a certain extent and stay positive through life's ups and downs- we don't always practice that. So here are some tips to remind us all to practice the ART of a positive uplifting attitude. Tip #1 Use Science:  Research shows when we think negative thoughts our serotonin levels actually dip and result in us feeling less happy. Conversely when we are thinking pos...
