New recipe -Lavender Coffee

Image
Lavender! Not just for macaroons (Though if you want to make these too go here- http://www.diaryofamadhausfrau.com/2011/08/lavender-macarons-with-orchid.html?m=1) This isn't going to be any longer than needs to be because it's quite simple. Step one : make a pot of coffee using keurig or whatever you use  Step two : get dried lavender leaves or some form of lavender tea and put it in a coffee filter  ( how much you use depends on your coffee, generally 2 teaspoons per 6 ounces of water is what is called for looseleaf tea- but I use 1 tablespoon/6 oz) Step Three: place the coffee filter filled with lavender leaves in to your coffee ,  (tip: you want to secure the filter at the top by wrapping a rubber band around it) Step four: take out the lavender leaves after two minutes Bam! You now have Lavender infused coffee that tastes delicious- add cream and sugar or whatever you usually do to coffee,  unless you usually add peppermint flavored

Is Your Daily Vitamin Going to Kill You?

Image
Found this interesting factoid in an article about gummy vitamins: "The people who take multivitamins are often the ones who need them the least — healthy adults who are already concerned with wellness and most likely reach their daily allotment of most vitamins and minerals just by eating a fairly nutritious diet " - http://greatist.com/health/gummy-vitamins-for-adults So do most of us even need to take vitamin supplements?  40% of the adult population report to take a multi-vitamin daily, but do they really need to? Are they wasting time, money or even possibly harming themselves?  Some experts say it's ok, some say it could kill you. Read on. I did some research and here is who  should  take vitamins: - College students who most likely are not able to eat a well balanced diet - Pregnant women, prenatal a obviously and these women more than any should get specific advice from their doctor on what to take - Alcoholics, for whatever reason they really need folic acid

Losing and Not Losing Yourself in Relationships

Image
I found this great article where a woman shares her experience about "losing" herself in relationships. It made me think. We all want to "lose" ourself in that metaphorical way in the euphoric feeling of love. We love swooning over a new relationship. However, one thing we must guard against is losing who we are in that relationship. I don't know what it's like for men, but I assume they too can have this problem. As a woman I definitely have struggled with this in the past. I have changed or stifled parts of myself in relationships, not just with men, but with friends as well. I never did it intentionally it just happened when I wanted acceptance and certain parts of me weren't accepted. That's a horrible way to conduct relationships and I'm glad I eventually realized it.  However, even if you are not prone to unhealthily changing yourself in a relationship, there is still a certain challenge in balancing one's independence and dependence

Any Merry Little Thought

Image
"Think of a wonderful thought, any merry little thought. Think of all the joy you'll find When you leave the world behind And bid your cares goodbye You can fly, you can fly, You can fly! " - Peter Pan the Disney Movie Everyone wants to experience Happiness, but do we have to wait till our goals and dreams have all come true before we feel happy? Do our circumstances define our attitude toward life or are we able to take control of our own feelings and bend them to create that positive attitude that makes our world so much brighter ? Though most people would probably agree we can control our feelings to a certain extent and stay positive through life's ups and downs- we don't always practice that. So here are some tips to remind us all to practice the ART of a positive uplifting attitude. Tip #1 Use Science:  Research shows when we think negative thoughts our serotonin levels actually dip and result in us feeling less happy. Conversely when we are thinking pos

WARNING : it may suppress your appetite too much (This does not count as dinner! Even if it does have healthy nuts on top) This is my second day using my new bottle of GC, so I've been using GC 2 weeks with a 2 week break in between and just started up again. That's not how you are supposed to do it I just lost my previous bottle. Anyway... Yesterday my appetite was suppressed. I'm assuming it was the GC because that was the only different factor in my diet. I woke up Saturday around 11:30am and ate a decent sized brunch till I felt satisfied, not too full and no longer hungry. 3 hours later I had a coffee and a small fiber one bar. 3 hours after that I had a cupcake. 3 hours after that I was still awake and had eaten nothing else but felt fine. Lies. I woke up this morning and my body hated me. It was screaming at me to eat something. I took a shower and had to pause my shower half way to crumple on the floor until the feeling of my stomach eating me alive subsided. SO Whe
